Luna Table
Luna Table
The Luna Table is crafted from book-matched slabs of a California Live Oak that fell in Pasadena in 2011. The tree’s 100+ year life, and slow growth are visible in the density and raw intricacy of the grain. We named the piece after the Luna Moth, whose wings are echoed in the grain pattern and design choices we made when constructing.
Rather than imposing a rigid geometry on the seams, we allowed the live edges to guide the design. The organic contours of the slabs create voids along the inner seams, which we filled using original pattern-cut material from the same trunk. This approach provides stability and longevity, and allows the table to read as a cohesive whole.
The Luna Table is a collaboration between material and maker. We responded to the wood’s natural history from its growth, to its fall, and created a functional object that carries memory, movement, and the careful craftsmanship of our team.
