Eucalyptus Media Cabinet
Eucalyptus Media Cabinet
To build this cabinet, we developed a range of hybrid joinery techniques tailored to the piece. The exterior planks are flat on only one side, with a natural live edge on the interior faces - accepting the bottom plank for storage purposes. To accommodate this, Jessie engineered a jig that allowed us to cut the dovetail joints using the router at a 90° angle.
At the leg corners, we opted for sturdy lap joints reinforced with pegs, each custom cut from the same wood for a cohesive look. For the floater beams, we used a combination of lap joints and floating tenons, creating a subtle suspension system that supports the cabinet’s weight while maintaining a minimalist, finely balanced appearance.
The doors are cut from a single Black Locust plank, and installed with brass hinges and ball catches to complement the warm tones of the wood.
The top edge of the cabinet is sculpted in a way that preserves and emphasizes the live edge section of the plank, and displays the beautiful and wild nature of the wood.
